Meru replaces Cisco to ensure seamless roaming and secure mobile device on-boarding across 44 schools
SUNNYVALE, Calif., December 9, 2013 – Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in Wi-Fi networking, today announced that St. Lucie School District in Florida has deployed a Meru Education-grade (MEG™) wireless solution with Meru Identity Manager. A Cisco user since 2000, the school began deploying Wi-Fi in 2005 and switched to Meru in 2011 to enable BYOD for students, teachers and guests across 44 schools.
“We chose Meru because of their ease of management and the way that they make it easier for users to move seamlessly from point to point,” said David Jasa, IT program manager for St. Lucie School District. “Our key requirement was simple – the network had to work consistently and well. It provides Internet and online application access to students, who use it daily within the classroom, and also to vendors, guests, speakers and parents, many of whom need to roam among facilities in the 44-school system.”
St. Lucie County School District is located on the east coast of Florida and serves the cities of Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie Village and Lakewood Park. The district has approximately 40,850 students and is the largest employer in the county, with approximately 4,800 employees including 2,790 teachers. The district selected Meru for its high-density device support and for the ease of deployment and management enabled by the single-channel, Virtual Cell deployment option of the MobileFLEX architecture. The network was designed and installed by Meru authorized partner Electronaca.
The school also deployed Meru’s Identity Manager software to simplify secure BYOD provisioning, dramatically reduce IT workload and ensure a trouble-free wireless user experience. Identity Manager Smart Connect is optimized for both administrators and end users, enabling one-click self-provisioning of client devices for secure 802.1X connectivity. Identity Manager Guest Connect improves guest management by authorizing internal sponsors to create guest accounts and enabling guests to securely self-register. Both solutions work over existing network infrastructure with support for access points, controllers and wired switches from any vendor.
